Principal deputies and senators during the period of their office may not perform any other commission or employment of the Federation or of the states (federal entities) for which a salary is enjoyed, without prior leave of the respective Chamber; but then they shall cease in their representative functions while the new occupation lasts. The same rule shall be observed with substitute deputies and senators, when they are in office. The infraction of this provision shall be punished with the loss of the character of deputy or senator.
