Article 3 Federal Labor Law
TITLE ONE. General Principles
Current text · last reform published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) on 14 May 2026
Work is a right and a social duty. It is not an article of commerce, and it demands respect for the freedoms and dignity of the one who provides it, as well as the recognition of the differences between men and women to obtain their substantive equality before the law. It must be carried out under conditions that ensure a dignified life and health for the employees, men and women, and their dependent family members, in a work environment free of discrimination and violence.
No conditions may be established that imply discrimination among employees by reason of ethnic or national origin, gender, age, disability, social condition, health conditions, religion, migratory condition, opinions, sexual preferences, marital status or any other that undermines human dignity.
The distinctions, exclusions or preferences that are based on the particular qualifications required by a determined job shall not be considered discriminatory.
It is of social interest to guarantee a work environment free of discrimination and violence, to promote and oversee instruction, training, education for and in work, the certification of labor competencies, productivity and quality in work, environmental sustainability, as well as the benefits that these must generate both for employees and for employers.
